Mainstays

These programs follow me onto nearly every platform I use.

Mumble

The interface shows its age and feels very FOSSy but as of 2017, it remains the king of VoIP applications. I use the Caps Lock key as PTT and disable the "caps locking" functionality .

Microsoft Windows

A few programs and configurations manage to make my Windows experience bearable.

Cygwin

AutoHotkey

Greenshot

XMPlay

WinCompose

qBittorrent

WinDirStat

FlicFlac

Android

I run a slightly dated stock but rooted firmware on a slightly dated device.

My Samsung G800H is small, light and had a great battery life. Had. It has not last much more than a few days since early 2017. In the summer of the same year, I started charging it every night after it went flat on me once. I could change it but plugging it in frequently isn't much of an inconvenience.

The firmware is kept at Lollipop because anything newer came with certain anti-features that I couldn't work around in my use case. No stable, fully functional non-stock ROM seems to support this device either.

Miscellaneous

These programs didn't fit anywhere else but still deserved a mention.

FreeFileSync

wayback_machine_downloader

A handy Ruby script that automatically fetches CDX data from the archive.org Wayback Machine and downloads the referenced files. I'm not a big fan of how it handles query strings but otherwise it seems to do its job well. Very useful to recover old websites for personal archival.
